Acton Hockey 2/26/10

Game On.

I think the final rosters are set. There could be another tweak, especially if I get some last minute calls of guys wanting to play or cancel.

Note: Bob C’s status has changed from Out to Probable, so Sue will move to White team. If Bob can’t go, Red team can skate with 9 players.

Game Preview

Friday night’s game in Action is shaping up to be an interesting one with the debut of the yet to be named Red team. The Red team will feature all of that weeks Alternates with a mix of regulars. So far it looks like there will be 4 alternates, maybe 5.

Game Summary

The Friday night game featured the debut of the Red team. They started a little shaky, but found their grove and poured it on. In the end they had the commanding win by a score of 11-7.

It wasn’t supposed to play out like that said one scout, who took in the game action. The Steel Hounds had more than enough fire power but simply couldn’t execute, with the exception of Scott F. He was dynamite in his second game back, however, he still needs to get his wind back because he didn’t skate as hard as usual.

For the Red team there were not 3 but 4 stars. Dave B, Eric, Jesse and Jimmy all had 4 points on the night. And what’s this I see on the Stat sheet… Eric had more assists than goals. Way to go on that feat.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how Ron was a non factor with 0 points on the night. He was actually worse because he turned the puck over several times, a couple of them leading to goals. In addition, he was way out of position while playing D and let his guy score some easy goals. An off week to say the least. Oh well at least he scored with his player bio 🙂

So next week the Red team is back to take on the Steel Heads. It will be another interesting game, but of course the outcome remains to be seen.

  1. Ron, can we leave the stat sheet for this past week up on the home page forever? Just so everyone can see that Billy Driscoll got shutout and can once and for all lay to rest the debate of who the better Driscoll is.

The answer was always obvious, but just for emphasis so no one forgets.

  2. I think the Red team will be the Storm this week (it’s still a dead heat on that Poll Question).

This week they’re the home team so they’ll play with white jerseys.

The Steel Heads are Back in the Black!!!

And I predict the red “Storm” will be like the last two so called storms the local forecasters predicted… nothing but a dusting!!!

  3. 2-26-10

5 Jesse – Welcome to the Weekly Power Rankings finally. Jesse is one of the more talented players in Acton but hasn’t seem to be able to put together a real solid game…..till last night. Also gets props for having to listen to Dave scream in his ear all night.

4 Jared – One look at this kid skating and you say: “how the heck do they let him play?” Yet it baffles me, and everyone else, that he scores on a consistent basis. Tied for 3rd in scoring!! But #1 in our hearts. Jared played through injury (something Brett couldn’t do) and outscored the likes of Billy, Gene, Ron, Devin, Nate, TJ and Sue. Quite a list to be above.

3 Jimmy – This migratory player from NH decided to fly around the ice in Acton last night. Jimmy was Eric’s wing man for most of the night and found himself in the right spots at the right time. Jimmy netted a hat-trick (3 goals for those who didn’t know what it was) and was that second real scoring threat that the dark team needed.

2 Eric – Eric “Chip on his Shoulder” Fiore, accomplished something we never thought possible. More assists than goals!! And probably could have gotten another assists on a bang bang play. Eric certainly played with passion last night, as he was able to intimidate Scott and also able to level Sue in open ice. Has he no shame? J

1 Scott – Looks like Skippy Fin has made quite a speedy recovery from a broken hand, as he had a hand in all the goals scored for the white team (‘TOL’ as Gene would say). Good thing the game only lasted an hour or he may have taken over 1st place in scoring in just one night.

  4. Lefty arm wrestle. Mark i would, but seeing as i can’t close my left hand (my glove hand) i don’t think it’d be a great idea. Look at the picture of my hand again. You’ll agree it wouldn’t be fun

Unless everyone promises to shoot blocker side.

  5. hey i’ve played net verse scotty before. twice. one time i shut him down. The other time i closed my eyes and by the end of the game was sucking my thumb and asking for my mommy.

Did you see Dave tonight? On most of Scotty’s shots he didn’t even move. Good thing too. Scott shot it into him a bunch of times anyway.

  6. Brett was given an easy assignment tonight and couldn’t even do that. I had an asst on Scott 100 mph first goal and Brett never wrote it down. Of course, I’m not even sure Brett knows who I am. You played a great game Mark. Don’t let him get to you.
